Bolivia

Bolivia is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. The demand for timber, overgrazing of farm animals, and soil erosion, has contributed to the area’s deforestation, making it difficult to make a living from the land. This has contributed to illness in livestock, and poor health and malnutrition for residents.

We tackle these issues in Bolivia through our approach which brings long-term solutions to provide food supplies, clean water, sanitation and land for farming and income resources.

Projects include:

  • Improving the environment through the planting of over 30,000 trees, and educating communities about the importance of reforestation.
  • Vaccinating 225 cows and more than 2,200 sheep to eliminate parasites.
  • Establishing water collection areas and an irrigation system to ensure successful potato crops in the area, and accessing potable water.
  • Accessing additional food for 127 families from governmental grants.
  • Installing Malena stoves in 104 homes that use less firewood and reduce smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation.
  • Initiating an emergency loan fund to purchase good-quality seed for over 65 families.
  • Acquiring electricity for a whole district in Bolivia.
