We believe the answer to bringing about an end to poverty is to create self-sufficiency. For people living in poverty to share ideas, so that when they look for solutions, they will see themselves.

Our approach is essential for the communities we work in where women aren’t used to talking in public, men aren’t used to organizing and where people have been victimized. Drought, disease, famine and generations of handouts have stolen their sense of dignity, pride and ability to believe in their own abilities.

Our approach below installs dignity, self-worth and fulfills their capacity. This is the way change becomes both long-term and sustainable:

1) Employ local native staff

Outreach International program areas are facilitated by local, native staff who work at the grassroots level teaching villagers how to organize and act for their own good. Staff from the same culture know how to teach change within it.

 2) Address the deep-rooted issues

Outreach International brings the process of group participation and collaboration and methods for addressing problems jointly.  Problem-solving that can be passed down to generations, restoring pride and confidence, belief and dignity to those living in poverty. This process is called Participatory Human Development Process (PHDP).

3) Apply outside learning within the villages

Local Outreach International staff learn effective social and organizational concepts and teach them inside the villages. These local facilitators create a constant cycle of identifying problems, listening, role-playing solutions, evaluating and reflecting. All part of the PHDP method.

4) Villagers create their own identity

The work of Outreach International is done anonymously with no interest in attention within the local villages which we work. This is to ensure that the accomplishments of the village are as a result of the village, not some outsider who may or may not come back.

We believe the promotion of Outreach International and sustainable good are not within poverty-stricken villages, but here in the developed world. You have the opportunity and the privilege of being able to hear of the good work happening and to keep it going. Become a supporter today.
